Swedish company GKN Aerospace is a global leader in the aerospace industry. They turned to Greatness PR with a clear goal: media coverage for the company’s investment in so-called additive manufacturing of aircraft engine components in Trollhättan, Sweden. GKN Aerospace wants to position itself as a pioneer in the industry. The result was articles in some of Sweden’s largest newspapers: the business magazine Dagens industri, the national newspaper Dagens Nyheter and the technology magazine Ny Teknik.
GKN Aerospace Engines supplies aero engine components to 90 percent of the global aerospace industry. The company is headquartered in Trollhättan Sweden and is owned by the British publicly listed company Melrose Industries.
In the spring of 2024, GKN Aerospace contacted Greatness for help with publicity and media coverage for their investment in a newly developed manufacturing method, known as additive technology. The manufacturing method can be described as a combination of welding and 3D printing that enables more efficient production of future aircraft engines by reducing the use of raw materials by up to 80 percent.
Implementation: communication strategy, press kit, pitch and follow-up
Greatness’ role in the project was multifaceted. Firstly, a communications strategy and messaging platform was developed, tailored to GKN Aerospace’s business strategy and objectives. Greatness produced the press kit with press release and other background material, as well as detailed FAQ and social media texts. Greatness also compiled journalist and media lists, and then started contacting editors to pitch the story.
Result: unique stories in national media outlets
The news from GKN Aerospace proved to be highly interesting for Dagens industri, DN and Ny Teknik, partly because the production method is more sustainable than current methods, and partly because the investment means that GKN Aerospace will build a new factory in Trollhättan.
GKN Aerospace’s CEO was interviewed in Dagens industri, the head of development was interviewed in Ny Teknik, and an extensive report on GKN’s investment was published in Dagens Nyheter (DN).
In addition to the reports, it also became a national news item on Swedish Radio, SR, and was covered locally in the Trollhättan-based newspaper Ttela.
